Most of them you might know, some of them you might have stanned already, while others you have no idea existed. 

The oversaturation of active groups in K-pop has proven to be a big problem over the years. 

K-pop indeed has become a cutthroat race to stardom and has embodied the phrase “survival of the fittest.”

So in this article, we are going to highlight those K-pop Boy Groups with 7 members that survived the hurdles.

1. BTS

If you haven’t heard of the name “BTS” already, then I assume you’re living under a rock. 

The Bangtan Boys are the undisputed biggest K-pop group ever. Since debuting, they have achieved what every K-pop Idol has always dreamed of — superstardom.

Bangtan Sonyeondan (“Bulletproof Boy Scouts” in Korean) is a seven-membered K-pop Boy Group that debuted under Bighit Entertainment. 

BTS is well-known for spreading the message of self-love and knowing oneself in its songs. 

These meanings, rooted in significant social notions, touched the A.R.M.Y.’s (BTS fandom name) hearts and, therefore, brought about their eventual fame. 

The most astonishing fact about the popularity of BTS is the fact that they came from a relatively tiny entertainment company and not the “Big 3 of K-pop.” 

Regardless of their initial limitations, they have accomplished a lot in their many years in the industry.

They have not only won Daesangs and other Korean accolades, but they also gained western recognition, such as the Billboard Music Awards when they won the Top Social Artist trophy for four years in a row.

Since then, the group has become one of K-pop’s hottest groups and has continued to be relevant for several years.

Early in their careers, the group integrated various breakdancing stunts and martial arts in their choreographies. 

It made them unique and certainly cemented their title as one of the best dancing groups in K-pop. 

In January of 2021, JYP Entertainment announced that the group officially left the company after seven years.

3. SuperM

Years Active: 2019 – present 

SuperM is the K-pop version of the Avengers. Each of their members comes from several established SM Entertainment boy groups. 

Taemin from Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai from Exo, Taeyong, Mark from NCT, and Ten and Lucas from WayV.

They made their debut with the single “Jopping” in the United States in October of 2019. 

Consequently, their debut song peaked at number one on the Billboard 200, making them the first-ever Asian act to top the chart with a debut release.  

The group was the brainchild of SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo-man and Capitol Music Group chairman Steve Barnett. 

Their goal was for SuperM to bridge the gap between the American and Korean music industries. 

4. BtoB

The K-pop Boy Band BtoB (an acronym for Born to Beat) debuted under CUBE Entertainment on March 21, 2012. 

BtoB debuted with the self-titled mini-album “Born to Beat” with two title tracks, “Imagine” (ballad song) and “Insane” (dance song.)

Then the album got some commercial success and peaked at number three on the Gaon Weekly album chart.

They are one of the oldest groups still active on this list, and they are going strong even now. 

They have proven that they can do everything as a veteran group, winning numerous accolades from premier Korean Music Award-giving bodies. 

5. ENHYPEN

Current Members: Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki

Years Active: 2020 – present

ENHYPEN consists of the final contestants from the survival/reality show I-LAND. 

BE:LIFT Lab, a joint venture between CJ ENM and Hybe Corporation, created the group. 

ENHYPEN got its name from the symbol Hyphen (-). 

“Similar to how a hyphen connects different words to discover new meanings, Enhypen aims “to come together to connect, discover and grow together to create a new act.”

On November 30, 2020, they debuted with the mini-album Border: Day One.

And since their debut, the group has been “monster rookies,” bagging several notable New Artist awards from prestigious award-giving bodies. 

ENHYPEN is also unique for having no specific roles for each member aside from Jungwon as the leader. 

With the group continuing to grow and develop, we’re sure they have a bright future ahead of them.

6. Block B

Years Active: 2011 – present

Block B is a seven-membered K-pop group initially formed by Stardom Entertainment. 

That was until they terminated their contracts from the agency and signed with Seven Seasons which, later became a sub-label to KQ Entertainment.

Initially, the group was supposed to be a hip-hop group with the “Creating Korea’s Eminem” project. 

They had a shaky start to their careers because of several controversies and troubles with authorities regarding the appropriateness of their songs towards younger audiences. 

However, they bounced back, releasing songs that top the charts like “Yesterday” and “Jackpot.”

In 2018, Zico, the group leader, did not re-sign with Seven Seasons. 

However, the group promoting as a seven-membered band is still on the table despite being signed by different labels. 

7. VICTON

VICTON is a K-pop boy band under Play M entertainment (a merger of Plan A and FAVE Entertainment) and has been active since 2016. 

The septet debuted with the mini-album “Voice to New World,” which is also the meaning behind their name, “VICTON.”

The group became a six-membered band for a brief period when Seungwoo became a new member of group X1 after he ranked third on the survival reality show “Produce X 101.”

However, the group disbanded due to a vote manipulation scandal. Play M Entertainment later announced that Seungwoo would return to VICTON to promote with the group once again. 

Over the years, the group won several awards in the K-pop industry, including the Bonsang trophy on Soribada 2020. 

8. VERIVERY

Jellyfish Entertainment formed the seven-membered boy group VERIVERY.

Their name is a combination of the Latin word “veri (which means truth)” and the English term “very.” 

They made their official debut on January 9, 2019, with the release of their first-ever mini-album called “Veri-Us” together with the music video of their lead single, “Ring Ring Ring.”

VERIVERY is still relatively new to the industry, but they have songs that prove they have got what it takes. 

For example, their most recent release “G.B.T.B.” (Go Beyond The Barrier) from their mini-album “Face Us” topped the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart at number 1. 

It was their first time appearing on the Billboard Music chart and will surely be a significant milestone in their careers moving forward. 

9. VAV

Years Active: 2015 – present

The name VAV is an abbreviation of “Very Awesome Voice.” They are a seven-membered K-pop boy band formed by A-Team Entertainment.

The group debuted with their first mini-album called “Under The Moonlight” in November of 2015. 

Meanwhile, Lou, Ayno, and Ziu were recent additions to the group after three former members left one by one from 2016 to 2017.

After completing their seven-membered roster, they released their third mini-album, “Spotlight.”

The group achieved some level of success without particularly reaching the top of the industry. 

VAV promoted their sixth album titled “Made For Two” as a sextet after Baron enlisted in the military. 

10. OnlyOneOf

Current Members: KB, Love, Rie, YooJung, JunJi, Mill, and Nine

Years Active: 2019 – present

8D Creative Entertainment (RSVP) formed the group as a septet.

OnlyOneOf debuted on May 28, 2019, with the “Dot Point Jump mini-album.” 

In fact, they released music videos for two title tracks titled “Savanna” and “Time leap.”

The group members were initially Blockberry Creative’s trainees. Blockberry announced that these trainees were to debut as “8x8x8.” 

Therefore, people might recognize them from LOONA’s web drama.

However, undisclosed issues delayed the group’s launch. Later,  Blockberry handed them over to 8D Creative’s RSVP label.
